_In the summer of 2011 the Danakosha Aid Project was founded by theBuddhistAssociation "Danakosha" inHelsinki/Finland.The project's main objectiveis to support thepopulationofGegongineastern Tibet.Due to the political and climatic conditions of Tibet, the life-circumstances of the nomadic people in Gegong are very difficult – they have basically no accessto educationalandhealthfacilities.
Notonlythenomadiclifestylemakes it difficult forthe parents to give theirchildren access toeducation,public schoolsare simply tooexpensive.Another problemis that theclasses in stateschoolsonlytake placein Chinese.So it'snotpossible for the children to learnreading and writingin their nativelanguage– a majordrawbackfor the learningsuccess ofchildren.
In August 2011the first plansfor a school buildinginGegong were made –the building will servebothas an educationalfacilityforchildren,as wellas a culturalcenterforthe adults.Theclasses will take placein Tibetan.
Project partners are the"village community" of Gegong,the localmonasteryandthePadmaTrustforChildren. DanakoshaAidhas set atargetto generateenoughdonations tobuildupaschool buildingbefore the end of 2013, includingsleeping accommodationformore than 60children.Thus, education isalso accessible tothose childrenwhoseparentsmove aroundwith theirherdsinthe vast steppesof Eastern Tibet.
